PREFACE
This Reader is intended to provide the beginning or intermediate student of
Tagalog with a broad selection of articles together with all necessary lexical
and grammatical information. All selections are rated between levels 2-3 on
the FSI (Foreign Service Institute) or ILR (Interagency Language Round-
table) scales. The fifty selections were taken from the Manila papers Ang
Pilipino Ngayon, Balita, Filipino Reporter, Taliba, and from Liwayway (a
Tagalog weekly magazine), all of which originally appeared between May
1986 and December 1988. This present volume follows the overall format
and style of similar publications by M.R.M. and Dunwoody Press.
